Position Summary
The Planning Associate provides facilities planning services for the University of Oregon on issues related to the development of the campus. Specifically, the position holds primary staff duties related to the oversight of the Campus Plan and its maintenance, the work of the Campus Planning Committee, specialty plans and studies, and periodic campus area studies. The position provides leadership, expertise, and advocacy related to the planning, policy, and design elements of the Campus Plan and at least one specialty area relevant to campus planning (e.g., architectural or landscape design, GIS land use planning, or community and regional planning). Related tasks include: staffing the Campus Planning Committee, formulating reports, policies, and studies; performing liaison and monitoring duties associated with those activities; and acting as a channel of communication for planning and design issues at the university. This position is responsible for interpreting and implementing the policies of the Campus Plan and educating campus leaders, capital project design teams, and others about the design elements and policies of the Plan.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree (or higher) in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
One year of professional experience in architectural or landscape design, planning, and design issues which involve public processes.
Professional Competencies
Demonstrates competence in architectural and/or landscape design, planning, and the creation of planning documents.
Possesses the ability to assemble, organize, and present information, both in written and graphic forms, derived from a variety of original and secondary sources.
Demonstrates an ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, with varied groups and to work effectively with university administrators, students, faculty, and staff, as well as with governmental entities, community groups, and the general public.
Possesses strong organizational, time allocation, and project management skills.
Demonstrates an understanding of the objectives, components, and structure of a research university.
Leads by example and maintains the highest ethical standards within the department and within the university.
Demonstrates an ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and/or education that provides an understanding of university planning policy issues and processes as related to campus design.
Experience and/or education in planning policy issues and processes related to the University of Oregon.

This position is responsible for interpreting and implementing the policies of the Campus Plan and educating campus leaders, capital project design teams, and others about the design elements and policies of the Plan.
This position also creates and updates planning related documents and manages planning projects and processes undertaken by the Campus Planning Office.
