About the role
As a Staff Software Engineer specialising in modern web technologies, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and user-friendly web based applications.

This lead position will allow you to be a key figure in defining our approach to web tech and the skills, people, and processes we need to succeed.

Measurement of success
Write high-quality, maintainable code with minimal defects while adhering to coding standards.
Set practical timelines for projects and consistently meet them to ensure smooth delivery.
Clearly communicate risks, changes, and their impact on stakeholder expectations.
Stay updated with and advocate for industry-leading web technologies and standards.
Mentor and support team members, fostering growth and maintaining a positive, productive environment.
What you’ll be doing
Leading the design, development, and delivery of modern web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, on the front and backend as well as crafting great CSS.
Collaborating with internal designers, developers and QA.
Mentoring and guiding team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Maintaining a centre of excellence for emerging web technologies tools, processes and policies.

What you’ll bring
Strong proficiency in modern web technologies including JavaScript, CSS, and frameworks such as React and Angular.
A solid understanding of accessibility standards and a commitment to building inclusive web applications.
Experience with additional supplementary technologies such as Electron
Experience in mobile development, including responsive design or frameworks like Ionic or React Native.
Expertise in optimizing web performance and delivering responsive, high-performing applications.
Formal communication skills, including the ability to present technical ideas clearly and write thorough documentation when necessary.
A genuine passion for web technologies and a drive to create innovative and impactful solutions.

What you’ll need
Proven experience as a senior or lead software engineer specialising in web technologies with a track record of developing and delivering successful projects.
Hands-on experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
Proficiency in testing frameworks and building automation tools to ensure high-quality releases.
Familiarity with design systems and the ability to implement them to maintain consistency across applications.
A strong understanding of UI/UX best practices and the ability to work effectively with designers.

The nice-to-haves
While your focus will be web technologies, experience or an interest in CI/CD, Mobile Development and Cloud platforms, particularly Azure, will be advantageous.
Exposure to DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
Familiarity with Cloud platforms such as Azure and Microsoft development frameworks like C# .NET
An interest in or experience with AI productivity tools
